Up for a Challenge?

Do you, or a group you know, want to enter the 'Big Travel Action Challenge'? Enter to be in with a chance of winning prizes and further travel action support from a prize fund of €15,000. Visit the Community Travel Planning page, complete the exercise, briefly develop your idea, then fill in the challenge application form (coming soon) to be in with a chance of winning.

What is the Big Travel Action Challenge?

The vast majority of our community travel in an unhealthy and unsustainable manner, which negatively impacts on all of our lives. In order to address this big problem we have created a big challenge to you and your community. The Big Travel Action Challenge is Limerick Smarter Travel's €15,000 challenge prize fund to support people-powered innovation. The challenge fund is there to support you and your community, to assist you in designing the most creative and effective travel actions, ones that can achieve the biggest decrease in household car-use over a set period. The winning travel action will engage the household, be sustainable, relatively inexpensive, and have the potential to be scaled-up, in order for it to be repeated in other households. The first stage of the Big Travel Action Challenge will be open for applications shortly.

Get involved today!

You can take part by firstly checking to see if the community, where you hope to carry out the travel action, has a travel action plan, a plan which has been facilitated by Limerick Smarter Travel. The community travel plan is needed so the Big Travel Action Challenge judges can be sure your action compliments the wishes of the community. Ideally when applying you will have gathered a small travel action group, which will enable you to share the workload, however we do take applications from individuals. If you are finding it difficult to gather a travel action group we have volunteers looking to be assigned to support interesting travel actions. Finally fill out the challenge application form, available below. You will have a response to your application within 2 weeks of the closing date for applications. If you have any questions or need assistance, get in touch and our team who will happily help you with any queries you may have.

- Look through the existing travel action groups on this website and ask to join them if you can join.

- Set up your own travel action group on this website and ask for people who are interested to join you.
