The Coca-Cola Zero® Bike Scheme
It's arrived! Launched at 12 midday on the 8th of December 2014 the Coca-Cola Zero® Bike Scheme includes 23 bike stations and 215 bikes located throughout Limerick City Centre. Watch the launch video, click here.
Following on from the success of the public bicycle share scheme in Dublin, the National Transport Authority (NTA) has now introduced a similar program in the regional cities of Cork, Limerick and Galway. The NTA's vision for the scheme was “to develop an environmentally friendly means of public transport that is healthy, relatively inexpensive, brings jobs closer to where people live, and ensures an improved quality of life in the City's natural and built environment.” The scheme seeks to increase the modal share of cycling and to ensure more people see cycling as a viable mode of transport in and around the city. This scheme will improve the mobility of the general public and help to reduce the environmental impact of private cars by taking them off the road.
A scheme of this quality takes a great deal of work to bring it to fruition. The team at Limerick Smarter Travel would like to thank everyone involved in the planning, design and delivery of this scheme and look forward to supporting its use, helping it to grow from strenght to strenght. Well done!
The Coca-Cola Zero® Bike Scheme in Limerick
Limerick has been allocated 215 bikes, with 23 bike stations and 445 bike stands. The bike stations/docks are dispersed throughout Limerick City Centre and allow potential cyclists to use bikes for either free or at a low cost and take/leave them at the most convenient docking stations on their journey. The scheme is an environmentally-friendly means of public transport for Limerick, one that is healthy, relatively inexpensive, and ensures an improved quality of life for our community. We hope that as many people as possible use this wonderful scheme and make more of their short journeys by bicycle.
