National Bike Week: Event Funding

Join the National Bike Week festivities!

Would you like funding to support your cycling inspired event in June? Limerick Smarter Travel has just been given the go ahead to offer financial support to help interested individuals and groups run their own events during National Bike Week (10th - 18th June 2017).


What kind of events will be funded?

Below is a list of events which have been run in connection with National Bike Week in the past. Interested applicants can choose an event from those listed below or propose a new one, whichever suits best. Examples are listed as follows:

-      Bicycle Repair Event,

-      Bicycle Themed Event,

-      Bicycle Rider Picnic,

-      Bicycle Rider Speed Dating,

-      Cycle Fashion Show,

-      Bicycle Art Exhibition,

-      Electric Bike Race,

-      Guided Cycle Tours (Themed: Heritage, Storytelling or Food),

-      A Midsummer Night Cycle,

-      Cyclists meet up (coffee morning etc.)

-      Lunchtime Cycle,

-      Coke Bike, Cycle In The City,

-      Heritage Cycle,

-      School Cycling Event,

-      Family Fun Cycle,

-      School Bike Art Competition, Quiz Or Drama,


About National Bike Week:

National Bike Week is a celebration of all that's great about bicycles and cycling it has been established to get more people participating in cycling both for transport and recreation. This year the National Bike Week festivities will take place between the 10th and the 18th st June, with cycling themed events happening right across the country. Traditionally bike themed events are organised by local authorities, community groups and cycling groups throughout Ireland. The events include but are not limited to the following: Free Bike Checks, Fun Cycles, Bicycle Rider Picnics, Lunchtime City Rides, Heritage Cycles, Bicycle Rider Speed Dating Events, Electric Bike Races, School Cycling Events, Bike Festivals, Road Races and much more. The intention is to have something for every age and ability.


Who can apply for funding?

Any individual or group can apply to this fund as long as they are planning an event in Limerick City or County on a ‘not for profit’ basis which can be held between the 10th and the 18th st June inclusive. How much funding can I apply for?

The funding will come in voucher format of up to €300 per application/per event.

How will applications be assessed?

All applications will be assessed by a panel of two independent judges. Judging proceedings will be supported by the Limerick Smarter Travel office. The judging will take place at 2 pm Friday the 19th of May 2017. Successful applications will be informed via email before 6pm on Friday the 19th of May 2017.
