This section relates to public amenities within the study area that could be of use for special school travel action days. Limerick has  a wide range of city parks and  their winding routes and open spaces make them an ideal location for a special events such as junior school 'pedal in the park' action days or the perfect end point for our junior school 'walk in the city' initiative. For further information contact your school travel officer.

 

1 | O'Briens Park, Clare Street, Limerick City

O'Briens Park is situated on Clare Street across from the Art College. This park is surrounded by footpaths and has pedestrian crossings just at the entrance. Why not organise a school walk to the park or ask your travel officer about organising a special 'pedal in the park' event with your school.

 

2 | Peoples Park

The People's Park, in Pery Square, is the principal park in Limerick City. It was formally opened in 1877, in memory of Richard Russell, a prominent local businessman. The park is surrounded by wide footpaths with pedestrian crossings at key locations. With a large playground and Art Gallery onsite the Peoples Park is a popular destination for the people of Limerick. In June 2013, the Limerick Smarter Travel School Project piloted a 'pedal in the park' initaitive with St.Michaels Infant School which was a great success. This park has numerous winding routes and picnic stops that make it ideal for a school travel action event.

 

3 | Shelbourne Park

North western suburbs, on Shelbourne Road between Hassett's Cross (Cratloe Road Junction) and Union Cross (Ennis Road Junction).

 

4 | Castletroy Neighbourhood Park

Castletroy Park is situated opposite Castletroy College in Annacotty. Since 2013,  Limerick Smarter Travel has held community bike bonanzas as part of National Bike Week where over 100 bicycles have been seen to by local bike shops and mechanics.
